A school sits idly in the middle of a forest. Ivy clings to its withering Victorian facade, vines battling to peer into dirt caked windows. The leaves whisper to each other as the generator kicks up somewhere within. Light floods the dated interior, the samey, labyrinthine halls revealed.
Footsteps echo as a man paces up and down the corridors, the light catching on the gold embroidery of his coat. Every touch of his hand against a water stained wall, or rotting railing, sends a shudder through the school. A gentle stirring, like a beast waking from a long nap.
This can only mean one thing: a new semester is about to begin at Sunrise Boarding School. . . .
A group of humans find themselves trapped in a massive boarding school filled with supernatural secrets. They have been split into two groups: Murder Majors and Survival Majors. The schoolβs faculty informs them that thereβs only two ways to graduate and escape this school: The Murder Majors become the last students standing, or the Survival majors manage to weed out all the murderers in their midst. But the student body canβt help but wonderβ¦ are these really the only ways out? Or can escape be achieved without any bloodshed? . . .
WELCOMETO SUNRISE Mystery Mayhem is a flavor based game mode devoid of Mafia's usual Us vs Them logic. All players share a common goal (which will be announced at the start of the game) and must work together to decode clues given by the GM. These clues can come from either flavor text in day and night phase posts, puzzles, or be collected via interactive night phases. Interactive night phases feature a map with locations. Players may choose any starting location they wish. From there, they can move across the map by selecting adjacent locations. Players have a set number of movements, with 1 being the minimum and 3 being the maximum. A player's number of movements is dependent upon their performance for the previous day phase. [Note: Selecting a location is considered a use of a movement. Additionally, movements do not roll over. If you don't use up all your movements you will Not have them added to the next night's total.] Certain locations may contain high risk clues. These are clues that are hidden behind an rng gambit, but are usually more detailed or ground breaking than typical clues. A player will be warned of the potential dangers of a high risk clue and given an option to forgo the gambit if they so choose. If they do engage in the gambit, failure may have negative effects on either the player who initiated the gambit, or other players in the vicinity. the Very Basics: Goals!
This game will be utilizing a tiered goals system as follows: MAIN GOALS β SHORT TERM GOALS β SIDE GOALS β PERSONAL GOALS.
Main goals are the gameβs big overarching objectives. For example, the main goal of this game is to escape Sunrise Boarding School. Every single player is working towards these types of goals, together.
Short term goals are objectives that can be completed in a day phase or less that are meant to help guide players through the narrative. So for example, while the big goal is to escape, a short term goal would be to first explore the school. These goals are worked towards by all players, just like main goals.
Side goals are basically side quests. Sometimes they benefit the main goal. Sometimes they are unrelated. Players will be notified when they receive a side goal, however unlike the previous game, players may reassign their side goals. Letβs say your goal has to do with a certain NPC, but youβre not very interested in them as a character. You can give your goal to someone whoβs more keen on learning about them. But choose wisely, side goals may only have ownership transferred once per game. Side goals can also give rewards if they are completed. Upon receiving a side goal you will be informed on the type of reward that awaits you, though the precise specifications will be a mystery. (More on typing later!) Side goals are worked towards by one or two players, and may or may not benefit from outside collaboration.
Personal goals are objectives held by a singular player that only affect or benefit that player. They may also have time limits. Some personal goals will give rewards, others will not.
Time is a Construct I Made Up!
We are all familiar with the concept of a day and night phase. But in Sunrise, such generalized measurements of time simply wonβt do! Day phases and night phases are each divided into three parts, as follows:
MORNING β MIDDAY β EVENING β ENCROACHING NIGHT β THE WITCHING HOUR β RECEDING NIGHT
That may seem like a lot, but by breaking up time this way the narrative is able to flow in a more guided way. Generally, the day phase will begin with Morning. This is where you guys chat it up, theorize, talk about your nights, what have you. Midday will signal the introduction of narrative driven on thread events. Then evening will foster more discussion. The night phase will begin with encroaching night and run through to receding night. Your nightly movements will all happen in accordance with this schedule, so your first move would be during encroaching night, second move during the witching hour, third during receding night. More on moves below!
Moves!
Moves are how you wellβ¦move during the night. Each player has one night movement by default, but may obtain more through quest rewards, player abilities, or day time participation, for a maximum of three moves each night.
Speaking of, at the start of the day phase a theme will be announced. Themes are vague hints that indicate the criteria players will be judged upon as they vie for extra moves. Some example themes are correct choices, participation, theories, and more! The precise criteria that was used to judge who gets bonus moves will be announced during the rollover post at the end of the day. Only two players may win extra moves through day phase participation each day phase, with the number one player receiving two moves and the runner up receiving one.
Movement from one location to another is dependent on whether those locations are adjacent. Adjacent locations are locations on the same floor as each other, or are a single floor up or down from each other. So for example, all locations on the first and second floor are adjacent to each other. But locations on the first and third floor are not adjacent.
Item Typing!
There is a vast multitude of items that can be gathered in this game! All items have a type attached to them, and this section is meant to briefly inform what each type means. CURRENCY
WEAPON
ARMOR
ARTIFACT
GIFT
TRINKET
KEY ITEM
DOCUMENT
Battles!
Turn-based combat does exist in this game, but is primarily located in a singular area and can be avoided by those who have no interest in it.
But for those that do want to do battle, the combat in this game is quite simple. Upon engaging in a battle, turn order is decided by everyoneβs speed stats. The higher the speed, the earlier you strike in the turn order.
Each turn, you will be able to choose to perform one action. Actions include a basic attack, a dodge, choosing to use one item from your inventory, or utilizing a specialized attack/ability your character possesses. Players trade blows with enemies until either all enemies have had their hp reduced to 0, or the players either choose to flee or are all downed.
Fleeing can be done when a battle gets tough! All players present exit the battle and return to safety, even the ones that have been downed. Downed players do not die, but rather have their hp set to 1. For the next night phase (and the current one, if they get downed while still in possession of more moves) they will have a debuff wherein they can only move once for the entirety of the night (or stop moving altogether if they still possess more moves after being downed). They also cannot re-enter the battle area until their hp has been restored to at least half.
Hp can be restored via multiple means: NPC interaction, items, other playersβ abilities, and each morning players have 25% of their hp restored automatically.
You may be wondering how things like hp and speed are even calculated. Basically, a combination of a playerβs patron identity, armor and weapon choices, and item usage, will grant you your stats. Each player will be informed of their base stats at the very start of the game.

Lore & Character Creation
Firstly, please direct your attention here for a bit of background lore on this universe! [If your browser/antivirus pitches a fit over any links in these posts please tell it to heck off, I'm literally linking to a tumblr blog]Now to the meaty bits: character creation! I am offering a lot of freedom when it comes to character creation for this game. You can be as detailed or as vague with it as youβd like. So long as you fill out the most basic parameters, I will be happy and content! Now a big aspect of this game is the concept of patrons, specifically patron gods. Each player will have a unique patron that you get to select from this handy dandy compendium. Click on the names to go to that god's page. Like Iβve said, sign ups come in two parts, and this is the essential aspect of part A. Along with your declaration of signing up, Iβd like everyone to provide a top 3 of desired patrons. I donβt want to make this selection process first come first served, so this is the compromise. If two people have the same number one, Iβll flip a coin to determine who gets that god and then the loser will get their second choice, ect, ect. I encourage everyone to just go for the ones they want without fussing too much over βbut so-and-so might want themβ. Thereβs 33 options here, Iβm sure everyone will be able to walk away satisfied! Who has what patron will be finalized when part A of sign ups concludes on the 27th. Patrons will award players with unique abilities, stats, and appearances. The abilities and stats will be hidden for now because I donβt want this part of the process to be viewed as likeβ¦ something that has to be min-maxed/strategized over? I want people to make their choices due to a feeling of intrigue/connection, not because everyone says βwell, this godβs stats are so good someone Has to pick themβ. Just trust that every god has their strengths/weaknesses and I would never assign one purely crap abilities and stats. As for appearance, you will be able to snag an aspect of your patronβs appearance for your character. Which aspect? Itβs up to you! You may just want their hair color, or a signature accessory, or you might want their antlers or extra mouths, the choice is yours. This will tie a bit more into the character appearance section below. Lastly, some lore stuff to consider when picking a patron if youβre into that. The concept of having a patron within this universe is pretty standard fare? But how seriously someone takes it varies. Like most people have probably done at least one like click-baity Whatβs Your Patron type quiz in their lifetime. And some will casually have positive associations with certain gods based on vibes, aesthetics, and similar interests. But then there are those who take the subject of their patron Very seriously. And this seriousness can stem from a number of things: whether feeling like their patron personally delivered them some kind of divine intervention, or their lifeβs work overlaps wholly with their deityβs cause, or a more shallow feeling of idol worship/parasocial relationship (this is more common in younger folk who grew up with the internet and stan culture). Basically any reasoning can work. Your character doesnβt have to be crazy zealous or something to have someone be their patron. They can just Marge Simpson it.

Character Creation Cont.
Now onto the appearance guideline. For age just have them be an adult. Thatβs it. I donβt care about specific numbers. Anything goes. Now for nittier and grittierβ¦ generally weβre going with a human base. So nothing that strays too far from humanoid. Really only two types of beings would be whisked off to this boarding school: humans and corrupted humans. For info on what a corrupted human is, please read this and this to get a clear picture. For the sake of this game, we wouldnβt be dealing with any corrupted humans that have managed to go full incomprehensible and are thus dangerous to touch. Which is why I say donβt stray too far from humanoid. Inhuman eye, skin, and hair colors are dandy and fine, and a quirky feature or two are also fine, but rolling up with someone that has like a whole ass goat head or something suggests a severe level of corruption that the school board would not be interested in messing around with. That being said, while I am having corrupted humans on the table for your base characters, I donβt want the cast to be βoops, all berriesβ with it, if that makes sense? Which leads me to another appearance aspect: For this game, you will be able to steal a piece of your patronβs appearance. What exactly you decide to co-opt is up to you. With the patron pages Iβve included a lot of pictures, and a section on their motifs, so feel free to pull from any of that. Obviously you canβt fully secure this aspect until part A of sign ups concludes and everyoneβs patrons are set in stone, but this is something to think about as you design your character and pick a patron! So even if you go vanilla human route, there is a way to spice up your characterβs appearance. Finally, the uniforms! Everyone gets a complementary school uniform! The components are pictured below, and you can piece it together however you want. The three required pieces are either the A1 or A2 shirt, some kind of bottom, and then either the H1 bow or H2 tie. The vest and jacket are optional. Also this isnβt as grim as irl school in that you can wear whatever shoes you want and accessorize however you want. Also if anyone chooses a skirt and wants it to be knee instead of calf length just let me know and Iβll make a note of it. I didnβt have the energy to draw shorter lengths for those sdkjhjfkjdf Now below is the character form. This will only be submitted After part A concludes, but I figured I may as well let you guys see it now so you can begin planning and thinking. Name: Pronouns: Patron: Uniform choices: Appearance (This can be words or a piccrew or whatever honestly!): Patron Inspired Feature: (Optional Additionals!) Three personality traits: Why did they choose their patron? Anything else you wanna say about them: Also for all you game-tailored-pfp enthusiasts out there, dun sweat that too much. The school provides many amenities to its students.

I am currently reading the Heck out of this delicious lore, so Iβll probably be back with more, but I have two initial questions:
1) Can players trade items with each other? Like if I have a gift I think would be good for an NPC Iβm not particularly interested, could I give/sell/swap that item with another player?
2) Do you have any objections to people bringing already-existing OCs to this shendig, or would you prefer people make Fresh Beans?
Also I will officially declare my sign-up when I finish reading lol

Most items you can just pass around, if any have like special limitations you will be told upon receiving it 2) absolutely 0 objections do whatever you want with whatever blorbos you got so long as they fit within the parameters

I'm still ruminating over patrons, so I'll hold off on officially signing up until I get that list finalized. But first of all, I have a lore question:
How does this setting perceive god-neutral people, who do not worship or revere anyone specific in the pantheon, but acknowledge the supernatural exists? Additionally, what about antitheists, who dislike the idea that there are gods and outwardly reject the practice of revering them?
